Newborn sleep: what is normal
Short stretches, day-night mix-ups and safe sleep basics.

Newborns sleep in short stretches around the clock and do not know day from night yet. Waking every two to three hours to feed is completely normal in the early weeks.
Always place baby on their back on a firm, flat surface with nothing loose in the cot: no pillows, bumpers or heavy blankets. A fitted sleepsuit is usually warmer than you think.
Dim lights and quiet feeds at night, and brighter, busier days, help their body clock settle over the first weeks.
